Problems installing SQLServer 2000 Developer Edition on Windows XP Pro

Hello!

When trying to install SqlServer 2000 Developer (as Administrator) on my
Windows XP Professional I get the following message at the point where
the system asks Local Account or Domain account:

The logon account cannot be validated for the SQL server service. Verify
that the user name and password entered are correct. The logon attempt
failed.

Anyone an idea what goes wrong here?

Thanks for your info.

Daniel

Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!Make sure that the account you are providing has the "log on as
service" rights to local machine. After you verified that you didn't
make a typo entering the login. :-)

Problems installing MSDE Desktop SP3a SQL server

Hi,
I'm trying to install MSDE Desktop SP3a SQL server on my Windows 2000 Professional Laptop.
Every time I try it nearly finishes the installation and then just rollsback.
Can anyone help? Is this a known issue?
Thanks in advance,
JockyHave you tried using the verbose logging switch when you install? You need to add something like this to the setup.exe you are running fromthe commandline:
/L*v c:\msde_install.log

|||The following article might help you setup MSDE from command line.

That Microsoft article did the trick. Thanks y'all!

Hi,

I am new to Windows Mobile. I am trying to follow the expample, MED302: Developing an SQL Mobile Application with Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. The problem happend when I reached Exercise 4: Create a Subscription. After task 1 and 2, I typed http://yunan/sqlmobile/sqlcesa30.dll in IE. But I got "The page cannot be displayed" message and "HTTP 500 Internal server error". I am sure the IIS is running. Is there any other settings I need to do? Eric,

The permissions are set. The snapshot folder allows snapshotagent, internet agent account (IUSR_computer) to access. Those users also have access right (owner) to database and publication access list. Basically, I followed the steps in the following article:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171908.aspx

I just can not create a subscription. I’ve exhausted the possible techniques I could find from forums. I don’t know if I need to re-install my existing software such as SQL server 2005, SQL 2005 CE (sqlcesa30.dll).

Thank you very much for your time. If you have new suggestions, please let me know.

You can troubleshoot further and post your error stack, then it will be possible for other forum user to assist. Please enable SQL Server agent logging as per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173017.aspx

Eric,

Thanks again!

The problem was solved by move sqlcesa30.dll to my snapshot folder and modified my IIS virtue directory for SQLCE point to this folder. Now, I can move to next step of building applications.

Now, I continue to follow the sample in

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171908.aspx

When I try to do step 6 of Add a data connection, in the list of data providers, Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition is not available. Any idea on how to add it?

Problems deleting SQL.LOG file

Hi,

I can not delete this file from C/Windows/Temp directory, all other files form that foder I can delete. The error message I get is that something else is using this file. The thing is I cant find what is using it, even though I uninstaled SQL Server 2005 completely. I have tried lots of things, nothing helps. At the end I entered windows in SAFE MODE, went to Computer Management and disabled almost every service I can, that might be using it, and still cant get rid of this SQL.LOG which is 26GB now. The only thing I could do is to compress the file and now it is 6.5GB.

Txs for the help..

This file is a result of ODBC tracing. Here's the article about how to delete it.

Problems connecting to SQL server on W2K3 from Win 2000 workstatio

We are running SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server 2003 (SP1 not installed).
We are trying to access our databases using Enterprise manager from our
machines in the office using windows authentication. We have no problems
from Windows XP machines (using both TCP/IP and Named Pipes). I can connect
to the server using the SA account (TCP/IP) and Named Pipes from a windows
2000 workstation, but cannot access the SQL server from Windows 2000 machine
s
using TCP/IP.
When we try to log in using Windows 2000 we get "login failed for user
null". From xp machines it goes straight in.
Testing that I have done:
? Set up an alias to the Windows 2003 server name (SQL Server Client Netwo
rk
Utility). No luck
? I can map a folder to the machine using net use command
? I am in the same AD domain.
? The clients are connecting to the server using integrated security (not
allowing SQL authentication)
I cannot understand what’s going on; do you have any pointers on where to
start looking?
ThanksSame here, except we can not to connect from win98 machines. From XP
everything looks fine. Before everything worked for about 1,5 years and
only today morning crashed. Btw, connection to (local) on server machine
works fine. Nobody did any changes in TCP/IP nor in DSN settings.|||This is because you are using Windows authentication without a domain setup.
If you aren't using a domain you shouldn't use windows authentication
because it tends not to work, use SQL Authentication and you'll always
connect. The problem is mainly that the users you are signed in to the W2k
box doesn't match a user on the W2k3 box, or the user isn't passed properly
to SQL, or if you really want to setup Windows authentication use to put the
workstations that servers into a domain..

Problems connecting to SQL Server DB using Perl CGI

Please help. I am at my wits end. :confused:

I have SQL Server 2000 on a Windows 2003 server. I have my database on a Nmade Instance . Named Pipes is disabled and only TCP/IP is enabled. Authentication is set to Windows only. The server is in Active Directory.

My web site is on a Windows 2000 server with IIS 5. I have installed the Client Network Utilities and set the alias to TCP/IP also. I can connect to the SQL server using the Query Analyzer.

I have downloaded and installed ActiveState's ActivePerl 5.6.1.638-MSWin32-x86.msi on both machines. I have also installed DBI and DBD::ODBC on both machine. Both machine have MDAC 2.8 installed.

The code I am using to connect is as follows:
my $user = 'user';
my $pass = 'password';
my $db = "database";
my $server = "servername\\instancename";
my $ipadd = "xxx.xx.xx.xxx,xxxx";
my $driver = '{SQL Server}';
Option #1
$DSN = 'driver=$driver;Server=$server;uid=$user;pwd=$pass ;database=$db;network=DBMSSOCN;address=$ipadd;';
$dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:ODBC:$DSN") or die 'Cannot Open SQL Server Database $DBI::errstr\n';

Option #2
$DSN = 'driver=$driver;Server=$server;uid=$user;pwd=$pass ;database=$db';
$dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:ODBC:$DSN") or die 'Cannot Open SQL Server Database $DBI::errstr\n';

Option #3
$dbh = DBI->connect('dbi:ODBC:driver=$driver:dsn',$user,$pass) or die 'Cannot Open SQL Server Database $DBI::errstr\n';

Option #4
$dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:ODBC:database=$db;server=$server",$user,$pass) or die '$DBI::errstr\n';

From all that I have read and from previous scripts I have written, any of these should work, but I am getting the following error.

DBI connect('driver=$driver:dsn','user',...) failed: at C:\cgi-bin\CGI.pl line xxx Cannot Open SQL Server Database $DBI::errstr\n at C:\cgi-bin\CGI.pl line xxx.
Where xxx = the line number of the connection call.

All of my previous scripts have been written for forms where the web server(Apache), database(MySQL), and script(Perl CGI) are all on the same machine. I am not at all familiar with SQL Server, and am struggling to learn quickly. PLease and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
LANACI don't know Perl, but VBScript would look very simple using Option #1:

user = "user"
pass = "password"
db = "database"
server = "servername\\instancename"
ipadd = "xxx.xx.xx.xxx,xxxx"
driver = "{SQL Server}"
connect_string="driver=" & driver & ";server=" & server & ";uid=" & user & ";pwd=" & pass & ";database=" & db & ";network=dbmssocn"|||Try setting up a SQL Profiler trace on the database server. Trace all error/warning events, and see if you are getting anything at all from the client.

I am afraid I have never worked with DBI, so I can not tell you if there is anything obviously wrong in the code.

Problems Configuring HTTP Access to SQL Server 2005 Analysis Serveices on Windows XP

I tried to setup HTTP access to SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services on Windows XP, based on the technet article of the same name.

On setting up the virtual directory properties step, I could not add the msmdpump.dll in the Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping as the OK button is greyed out. What needs to be done to enable adding msmdpump.dll?

Any help would be appreciated!

Make sure that ".dll" is in the extension box (don't forget the period). And if the path to msmdpump.dll has an ellipse in the middle of it (...) after you browse to it and select it, click in the path text. The ellipse will go away and the ok button will become active. I had the same problem...|||

Ahha. The dot in front the dll did the trick.

Thank you very much!

Problems calling a stored procedures depending on parameters

Hi guys, hoping one of you may be able to help me out. I am using VS 2005, and VB.net for a Windows application.

I have a table in SQL that has a list of Storedprocedures: Sprocs Table: SPID - PK (int), ID (int), NAME (string), TYPE (string)
The ID is a Foreign key (corresponding to a Company ID), the name is the stored procedure name, and Type (is the type of SP).

On my application I need to a certain SP depending on the company selected and what page you are on. I have a seperate SP that passes in parameters for both Company, and Type and should output the Name value:

ALTERPROCEDURE [dbo].[S_SPROC]
(@.IDint,@.TYPECHAR(10),@.NAMECHAR(20) OUTPUT)
AS

SELECT @.NAME= NAME
FROM SPROCS
WHERE [ID]= @.ID
AND [TYPE]= @.TYPE

Unfortunately I dont seem to be able to get the output in .Net, or then be able to fill my dataset with the Stored Procedure.
Has anyone done something similar before, or could point me in the right direction to solving this problem.

Thanks
Phil

Since @.NAME is an output parameter, you need to indicate that in your Command object (ParameterDirection.InputOutput or ParameterDirection.Output). That allows the parameter's value to be retrieved after the command has been executed.

Alternatively, you could select the data like you would in a normal data retrieval, and not worry about using an output parameter.

|||

Thanks for your reply Mark, I will try adding the ParameterDirection part.

If I use normal data retrieval how can I select the appropriate stored procedure when I try filling my table adapter from the dataset?

Thanks

|||

I assumed you would be performing an operation to select the stored proc name, then another operation to execute that stored proc.

|||

Yes that is what I am trying to do, but not so sure on how to go about it. Do you have any code examples?

Thanks

|||

hi mate,

Here is a sample

Dim cmd_ObjectpathAsNew SqlCommand("Select * from [" & tabelName &"]", sqlCon)

Dim adapterAsNew SqlDataAdapter(cmd_Objectpath)

Dim resultAsNew DataTable

adapter.Fill(result)

ForEach rowAs DataRowIn result.Rows

////do the process u want

The code I have so far is:

Dim IDAs Int32
Dim TypeAsString

PrivateSub SimpleButton1_Click(ByVal senderAs System.Object,ByVal eAs System.EventArgs)Handles SimpleButton1.Click

ID =Me.TextBox1.Text
Type =Me.TextBox2.Text

Me.SPROCSTableAdapter.Fill(Me.DataSet1.SPROCS, ID, Type)

GetSprocName("AUMS_VALID")

Try

'Logic is a seperate VB file containing further code
Logic.run_SQL_fill_dataset(Me.sqlDataAdapter1, DataSet1.GEN_VALID)
Catch exAs Exception

EndTry

EndSub

PrivateFunction GetSprocName(ByVal st1)AsString
' Gets the names for the sprocs so each table can be filled with differant data. Using value 1 for param 1 just to test
Me.SQLCommand_GetSprocName.Parameters(1).Value = 1
Me.SQLCommand_GetSprocName.Parameters(2).Value = st1.ToString()
Logic.run_SQL_command(Me.sqlConnection1,Me.SQLCommand_GetSprocName)
' This is is where the app seems to fail
ReturnMe.SQLCommand_GetSprocName.Parameters(3).Value.ToString()

EndFunction

**** Code in Logic File: *****

'Sub to run SQLcommand, checks the connection and haddles errors

sqlcon1.Close()

If sqlcon1.State = ConnectionState.ClosedThen' connection check

sqlcon1.Open()

EndIf

sqlcom1.ExecuteNonQuery()

If sqlcon1.State = ConnectionState.OpenThen

sqlcon1.Close()

If sqlcon1.State = ConnectionState.OpenThen

sqlcon1.Close()

EndIf

Error_box(ex,"Error on Running SQL Command")'Can place more better code here later

EndTry

EndSub

PublicSharedSub run_SQL_fill_dataset(ByVal sqladapterAs SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter,ByVal datatableAs Data.DataTable)

Hi,

I'm afraid that there's something wrong in your code. What we can provide is a general process of communicating with a stored procedure from a .NET application.

Let's take the stored procedure you provided as the sample.

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[S_SPROC]
( @.ID int, @.TYPE CHAR(10), @.NAME CHAR(20) OUTPUT )
AS

SELECT @.NAME = NAME
FROM SPROCS
WHERE [ID] = @.ID
AND [TYPE] = @.TYPE

In your procs, there are 2 input parameters and an output parameter. Then in your application, you should following the steps below:

1. Create the connection which links to the database.
a) Dim myconn As New SqlConnection(ConnectionString)

2. Create the SqlCommand object which execute the procs.
Dim sc As New SqlCommand()
sc.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
sc.CommandText = "YourProcsName"
sc.Connection = myconn

3. Setting your parameters and add them to SqlCommand object.

Dim sp1 As New SqlParameter()
sp1.ParameterName = "Parameter1"
sp1.Value = ""

Dim sp2 As New SqlParameter()
sp2.ParameterName = "Parameter2"
sp2.Value = ""

Dim sp3 As New SqlParameter()
sp3.ParameterName = "Parameter3"
sp3.Size = 10
sp3.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output

sc.Parameters.Add(sp1)
sc.Parameters.Add(sp2)
sc.Parameters.Add(sp3)

4. Open the connection, execute the process, and get the output parameter.

myconn.Open()
sc.ExecuteNonQuery()
myconn.Close()
Dim c As String = sp.Value.ToString()

After all, you can get the output parameter from the variable C.

Besides, this is a WebForm support forum, if you are developing WindowForm application, it would be better for you to go to MSDN forum where you can get more help.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply - it has been a big help.

Problems Backing up database to a PC with 200GB drive

SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2000.
Is this possible. I try to create a new backup device and the only thing I
can locate is the local partitioned drives. I try to put in a UNC and it
does not work.
Is this not possible to put in a UNC to a shared drive on a PC. The backup
is needed to get off of the server because of space. We don't have a server
big enough to handle the size of the database.
Is it possible this is a a rights issue and I can't get off the server due
to rights. I have shared the heck out of the share on the PC.
Thanks for any help.
Gordon
I assume you tried mapping a drive letter to the share? I have a network
share mapped as a local drive letter "L:". I just did a backup from SQL2K to
"L:\backup\mydb.bak" using Enterprise Mgr. I added that path to the backup
device window in the backup dialog. What happens when you do this?

problem: user account access (always uses the same account)

I've configured the IIS with only windows authentication, when i connect to
Reporting Server or Reporting Administrator uses the windows account, but
the security rules work different:
I have configured rules for two accounts: my windows account and
IUSR_machine.
When i try to connect to servers i put my windows account and goes ok, but
the security rules works with the rules assigned to the iusr_machine. Any
rule assigned to my user doesn't have effect, and all the changes makes in
the IUSR_machine's rules have effect.
I've configured restrict access to the iusr_machine and grant permission for
my windows account. When i connect with my windows account and i try to do
any task that iusr_machine haven't permission, the server response me that
the iusr_machine haven't permmission to do it.
Any idea?
thank you.

Problem: DTS parallel tasks running sequentially

Hi

I have a SQL Server 2000 instance running on a Windows Server 2003 box with 4 processors. SQL Server is configured to use all 4 processors, and use all available processors for parallelism.

I have created a simple DTS package which has 2 "execute external process" tasks with no precedence constraints between them. There are no connections required or defined for the two tasks (sequential
processing is forced on tasks sharing connections). The DTS package
properties have the "limit the number of tasks to execute in parallel"
set to 4.

However, despite the above configuration, the two steps are never executed in parallel, but always sequentially.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why these tasks are not being executed in parallel?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks.My first guess would be that you've established a precedence between the tasks by creating either a success or a failure connector between them. This forces DTS to complete the first task in order to know if it succeeds or fails before it can start the second task. Remove the presedence, and they ought to run in parallel.

-PatP|||Pat

Thanks for the reply but as I stated in my original post, there are no precedent constraints in place.

I have subsequently done further testing and it seems related to the task type. I can successfully run external commands in parallel via the ActiveX script task shelling out to call the executables, but cannot acheive parallel running using the "Execute External Process" task type.

Problem writing data after upgrading

Hello,

I was using for years an application that had an MSDE database.

Recently. I've upgraded my computer to Windows Vista, so I had to upgrade MSDE to SQL Express.

I've managed to attach the old MSDE database of the application to SQL Express, and I am able to retrieve my data from within the application.

My problem is that I can not write or update data from within the application anymore. However, If I open a table in SQL Management Studio Express I can write/ update data with no problem.

The company that build the application I was using doesnt exist any more so I cant take any support from them.

The only thing I know for a fact is that the application is connecting to the database using the sa user.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

hi,

that would need some deeper investigation. What are you experiencing during trying to update the database ? Do you get an error ?

Jens K. Suessmeyer.

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

|||Just an error within the application saying "Update failed"|||That is a wrapped error of the application not a SQL Server error, you will either have to use the SQL Server profiler (which is NOT included in SQL Server Express) or change the application to expose the error messages which come directly from the server.
